CONGRATULATING DINNER PARTY FOR OUR PATRON, PROFESSORISA ODIDI ON HIS CHIEFAINCY TITLE (THE SARDAUNA OF ZUBA)

Renaissance Hotel (Toronto) – The Unic Club of Canada, Toronto organized a one of a kind dinner party for Professor Isa Odidi, the club’s patron and one of the successful Nigerians in Canada on Saturday June 5, 2005 on his newly confered chieftaincy title – The Sardauna of Zuba.

The party was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life both within Canada and outside. Guests came in from all over the world, U.S, Europe and from Nigeria. It was a showcase of who is who in the society. There was also representative from the government of Canada and Nigeria. Ms Megan Harris delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the Hon. John Tory (MPP). Also present was the top brass of the New Democrats (ND), a registered political party in Nigeria whose chairman is the celebrant himself, Pro. Isa Odidi.

The Unic Club president, Mr. Franklin Omoruna delivered his welcome address highlighting some of the many achievements of the Club’s Patron. Among them was the selection by the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Olusegun Obasanjo, as one of the 50 confab delegate, his recognition as first person to receive the Harry Jerome award for excellence in the field of Science and Technological innovations and the conferment of the Title of the Sardauna of Zuba.

The president, Mr. Omoruna, thanked all the distinguished guests for honouring the Club’s invitation and credited his club’s member for making the dinner party a reality, something many folks thought would not be possible. Later, before unveiling the club’s gift to the professor, (drawing portrait of Professor. Isa Odidi). Mr. Omoruna acknowledged the sacrifices of the club’s two founding members, Mr. Pius Okhonmina and Mr. Andy Okungbuwa. Both past presidents of the club, he gave both men credit for their foresight and success of the club thus far. (Link to President Address)

In response, the Patron was humble as usual by thanking God for all his achievement. He stated that “ I, first of all pray to God and will continue to do so because without God, we are helpless. My family, and my wife Dr. Amina Odidi, whom I owe my life to, who stood by me at all times and who is an inspiration to me. My friends and well wishers, and indeed, the Unic Club, words cannot describe my appreciation of your support, and I will continue to do all I can to continue to earn your friendship. (Link to pro. There was also some key note speeches by other speakers, including Professor Ike Azogu, who flew in from the United State and Mr. Akeem Bello, the Presidential aspirant for 2007 under the umbrella of the New Democrats party of Nigeria. Dr. Idris Dag-Ellams, a renowned surgeon also gave a brief speech and outlined some of the professor’s achievements. Some of which are his record of single handedly bringing Biovail into the limelight, the multi million-dollar drug company and then forming his own drug delivery company.

The occasion was a rare showcase of politicians, academia and businessmen. The PRO of the club, Mr. Emma Aigbedion, who was the co- facilitator of the ceremony in collaboration with Mr. Billy Etuk, and Ms Bukola Olaojo, acknowledged the presence of all the dignities by their names through out the occasion. There was also a presentation of gifts by Mr. Osaze Imasuen the immediate past president of Unic Club to some guests for their contribution towards the dinner party.

The party came to an end with rounds of photographs, hands shakes and a vote of thanks by Mr. Dennis Ediae, a member of the Unic Club of Canada, Toronto.
